Last week CBS announced their fall prime time schedule and "The Assistants," a comedy pilot starring Heather Locklear they were considering for the 2011/12 season, was not on it.
9 comedy pilots vied for a spot on the CBS schedule, but the network needed only two.
Locklear was in a similar situation 4 years ago, when ABC decided not to pick up the comedy pilot called "See Jayne Run" in which she starred.
Locklear's last regular prime-time gig (apart from The CW's failed 2009 attempt to revive Aaron Spelling's "Melrose Place") was in a short-lived 2004 NBC airport security procedural "LAX" co-starring Blair Underwood.
Recently, Locklear has appeared in a string of Lifetime made-for-TV movies, the last of which ("He Loves Me") aired earlier this year.
Personally, I would rather see Locklear return in a fresh prime-time soap than comedy, that is after all what she is best at - playing a bitchy soap minx.
But will Heather be able to stage another career comeback? Her career was mostly based upon late Aaron Spelling productions - "T.J. Hooker" and "Dynasty" in the 80s and "Melrose Place" in the 90s. The three years she spent on ABC's sitcom "Spin City" came about following the success of "Melrose Place."
But she hasn't been on a hit show for almost a decade and she's had to deal with a number of personal issues in recent years.
I always thought Locklear's "Sammy Jo" brought spark and magic even to the most dreadful of "Dynasty" episodes and she was even more critical to the success of "Melrose Place," a show she is credited with saving. I will therefore most certainly be rooting for Heather, while also hoping she returns to her soapy roots.
